The annual birthday reception of his Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Japan at the Japanese embassy in Kuala Lumpur is invariably a lively and crowded affair where hundreds of diplomats and invited guests mingle and are treated to an array of delectable Japanese cuisine, most notably wagyu beef and the finest dassai sake served in square wood cups called masu. This year’s celebration was however even more exceptional and attended by an estimated 1000 guests and the attendance of no less then 5 cabinet ministers, the Speaker of the Dewan

Mr. Lim Guan Eng, The Minister of Finance and Loong Caesar
Rakyat, the Attorney General and the Prime Minister himself. Managing Partner, Loong Caesar was one of the guests.
This impressive turn out by members of the government was a clear demonstration of the warm and special relationship between Malaysia and Japan not shown at other diplomatic events. In the words of Ambassador, Makio Miyagawa, Japan is deeply grateful for the support of the Malaysian government and in particular the endorsement of Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir in his belief that Japan was a stirling example of what could be achieved by a progressive Asian nation. Emperor Akihito abdicates in favour of his son Prince Naruhito in April 2019 and on ascending the throne, the new Emperor Naruhito will be the 126th emperor in an unbroken line of sucession dating back 2400 years.
